Chat Gat Miraa ጫት

Chat (ጫት), Gat and Miraa are the most popular names of Khat in east Africa and Arabian peninsula.

Khat scientifically known as Catha edulis is mainly grown in Ethiopia, Yemen, and Kenya. However, nowadays Khat is consumed around the globe which seems, impacted by globalization.

Around East Africa and Arabian peninsula  Khat is mostly considered as a social tool and a stimulant equivalent of coffee and energy drinks.

Khat is legal in Ethiopia and it is a major source of revenue for the country.

Ethiopia is the major exporter of Khat to its neighbors and different areas of the world.

I believe that it is time to know more about Khat and Khat chewers family around the globe. And it is my intention to assess social, economical and cultural aspects of Khat.
